I have attended my friends' beautiful wedding reception as I have mentioned here. It felt so nice to be with people I have not seen for a while, life updates, danced a little, and chatted a little. The bride was full of joy that she was teary eyed all the time. Their love has been ripened by time and family and friends were very happy for both of them.

And so, here is my first successful dress project I wore on their reception.

I want more of these! Can't wait to do more.

Finally: Lemon Yellow Dress

My friends' wedding is coming up in less than three weeks and I am super duper excited about a dress I want to wear since it is going to be a fun reception at Metropolitan Palace Hotel Dubai, I want to make something special to be on their big day and be able to dance too as it is going to be a night of food, music and dancing as they expect it to be!

I know my stitching is not that good yet, and I haven't posted any of my work thus far but promise that I will do it very soon! I am just ecstatic about this number I have in mind to show you. Cross fingers hoping that it turns out to be what I envisioned it to be!

Project: Lemon Yellow Dress

Residents and Emiratis celebrate winning of Dubai to host the World Expo 2020... and as my host country turns 42 --- it calls for a double celebration! Thursday was a happy day I may say and it's Red, Black, White and Green colors everywhere especially at work as they are the colors of UAE flag.

The company President treated the staff for a fun Thursday and lunch catered by our own F&B division.

I also want to share Reigel Carlo Cabug's youtube video of extravagant fireworks display at Burj Khalifa the same night after announcement of Dubai's win to host World Expo 2020.

The Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan went up to the top of Burj Khalifa with UAE flag following Dubai's win. The video is shared from the Prince's instagram account which RareVideo s shared on his youtube channel.

Red, Black, White and Green colors

Unfocused mind, and coming from fast driving lanes of vehicles running to 130 - 150 kph and closing into heavy traffic area and not quick enough to press the brakes, infront of you is a Nissan Patrol suited for off road driving, my little Toyota Yaris car I named Pinkie looks sad with its damage.

The Emirati lady's Nissan Patrol car has only got a a few scratches. We were both unharmed. Thanks to God.

I call it "first time, big time" experience, because in the last four years of driving my Pinkie (me being a first time driver and she's my first ever car), I haven't been into an accident, ever. Oh well, I had a minor scratch or two while maneuvering it in close spaces in my first few months pretty much it.

Panic calling Dubai Police telling the aforementioned accident and my location, calling friends including long time friend Jen, a Dubai-based lawyer, a workshop representative, towing service and everyone I can think of. Finally decided to step out of the car and checked with the other driver that she's fine, gave her my calling card, utter the word Mashallah, we were all just waiting for the Dubai Police to inspect.

As I was standing in the middle of the road with all the passerbys, I felt like posing is badly needed with my arms akimbo and so I did, right infront of my front-disfigured looking Pinkie wearing my blue pastel top, black ruffled skirt and nude 4 inches high heeled shoes. Even waive my hand once to an onlooker. It was heavy traffic mind you. You imagine the picture, eh.

Since my brother Neutral likes anatomy of cars, engines and stuff so we must go to witness Red Bull Car Park Drift Regional Finals tonight at Dubai World Trade Centre.

My Bird's Eye Chili Pepper seedling is now on it's third week (if I am not mistaken), though I think Dubai rather Ajman heat might have affected it as it looks stunted. Take a look.

I sprayed it with water one hot afternoon as it looks stressed.

It looked much better after two hours.

The whitish pebble-like thing is called perlite. I have only found one contact in Dubai that sells perlite, company is called Gulf Perlite. I read from forums the advantages of mixing it with potting soil for water retention, drainage and aeration in potted plants.

If you are interested to buy, you may contact them at the listed mobile numbers listed on their site. Friendly people and they don't mind selling retail to enthusiasts. Their location is Jebel Ali but they have an office in Marina if you want to buy only a couple of bags. Good news!

I bought one 100 liters bag (smallest bag) for AED30 (three-zero درهم), after filling up few pots the bag still looks full!

Another potting ingredient is Sphagnum Peat Moss Black. Also, only one contact I have found in Dubai - Shalimar Biotech Industries LLC and again they don't mind selling retail to gardening enthusiasts.

You will save a lot of money if you buy directly from them. I found their contact details from Abaddon on post in expatwoman website here. Go ahead and call them at +971 4 884 9790 or +971 4 223 9494.

Bird's Eye Chili Pepper and Potting Ingredients

A friend came back from his trip in Philippines sometime two months ago and brought large creamy avocados as pasalubong. This avocado fruit (very much look like Day variant (Source: http://toptropicals.com) is rare to find in Dubai supermarkets and so at the vegetable / fruit markets. While eating I told my friends not to throw the seeds away because I will grow it. All eyes on me and were like, what?!?!

They were actually two but I threw the other one because I won't have space in my balcony for two growing avocado seedlings.

It's growing so fast! Will wait and see how tall it'll become in a month or two.

My Improved Meyer Lemons don't seem to possess that speedy growing trait.

This photo was taken yesterday and and it didn't change much from how it looked two weeks ago. Same thing with my three other Improved Meyer Lemon seedlings.

For my potting mix, I use 30% potting soil, 30% perlite, 30% peat moss and 10% vegetarian bio organic compost. On the top layer I put wood mulch for my Improved Meyer Lemon seedlings.

My Balcony Garden Part 1

A new friend from my sewing class is about to get married, and the class decided we would make it as team project to make her dream wedding dress. She was a bit reluctant but agreed anyway when she saw the fabrics at the shop we went to (and how affordable it was) for some fabrics at AED5 per yard it was a bargain!

While I am still not able to identify most of fabric types, the colors are just so pretty that I can't help but share.

A Trip to Fabric Shop

My overlock sewing machine works! Yes, it does...

Threading was complex, but thanks to youtube video here of A Costureira for step by step threading and Sallam's help, my machine is so ready... I am now super excited to use this semi-industrial overlock machine and to finish my first garment!

I do think this one is perfect especially for a newbie like me who doesn't want to splurge cash yet on expensive serger / overlock. If you'd like to buy sewing machines / serger and if you live in UAE, you may want to call up Modern Sewing Machines, Manager - Aftab (nice chap!) +971 6 748 0510 / +971 55 869 5191. His shop is close to GMC Hospital, Ajman. They will source out sewing machines for you if you know what model and make you are looking for.

Now I know what to do with my long Eid Al Adha holidays... to complete two garments? Good luck to me!

Overlock Sewing Machine Part 2

Alright, couple of days ago I brought home this little monster err overlock machine / serger, from our local sewing machine retailer. It's a Star brand from India, considered semi industrial for domestic / household use. I thought I am in for a treat when Aftab, the salesman / shop owner told me it costs AED 300, over the phone. My eyes widened with excitement! Jeez, really?

So yours truly drove down to his shop with excitement and picked up my new overlock machine only to be told that the motor is separate and it has to be fixed up by his technician if I want the packed one. And I will have to come back for it because technician is not in that day. Well, I don't like the display item so I took the packed item and with confidence told him that I can fix it myself if it has instructions inside. He assured me though that in case I'm not able to he'd be happy to arrange with his technician to fix it but I have to bring the thing to his shop. Okay, okay...

Now, I have been staring err analyzing this thing for the last three days thinking how the hell I am going to connect both in the right direction? It's just not happening. And it doesn't come with instructions too! I guess I have no option but to bring this back and let them attach the motor to the machine. Excitement gone.

Overlock Sewing Machine Part 1

My usual Friday means attending classes from 8:30am while my pals are more likely still in their beds sleeping in because of late Thursday night out.

Friday Schooling Paraphernalia

The platform trolley has been really a big help! Prevented me from breaking my back carrying stuff to the car. Five more Fridays to finish from Basic Sewing class and I'm ready to go advance!

I'm now looking forward to show off my work in a couple of weeks, five more weeks, yipee!
